What do we believe?
Young ACT values responsibility, small government and the freedom for New Zealanders to pursue the most fulfilling life possible. Young ACT believes that the ACT party has the best policies to do this!
Freedom to Be
People should have the freedom to live their lives without governmental intrusion. This includes the liberty to start their own business, sell their own goods and access services they deem important to their personhood without discrimination or hindrances. The government’s role should not be to prescribe a lifestyle upon people, rather to provide the liberties that enable people to make the decisions that affect them and their families.
Individual liberty
Individual liberty and bodily autonomy are crucial elements of a free society whether that be access to abortion, euthanasia or different expressions of identity. We should not allow the government or zealous groups to decide what is best for free-thinking individuals.
Small Government
The government should have a limited role in society in order to let free enterprise flourish. Regulation, licensing and taxes are political tools often influenced by corporations to stamp out enterprise and corner industry. Innovation is the result of people taking the financial risk and having the ability to explore their creative enterprises, the current rigmarole of rules and regulation hinders these opportunities for societal development and stunts growth.
Freedom to Move
the freedom to move through immigration is a crucial liberty that allows people to live better more fulfilling lives. Giving people the freedom to move allows us to solve the crucial deficits of labor and skill shortages in New Zealand and provide opportunities for different people around the globe.
Young ACT Campaigns
Keep it 18, BZP pill ban, tobacco tax.
Young ACT has always fought for people’s liberty and has opposed numerous efforts to over-regulate the consumption of drugs and alcohol.
BZP Pill Ban
Young ACT opposed the bill to ban legal party pills. This meant these pills got pushed to the black market.
Keep it 18
Young ACT opposed efforts to increase the drinking age from 18.
Tobacco Tax
Young ACT has opposed increases in tobacco tax year after year. These taxes burden New Zealand poorest.
Vaping
Young ACT opposes attempts to regulate vaping such as the attempt to ban flavoured vapes.
It’s the economy stupid!
Lets reform this S**t
Young ACT believes the economy needs a radical shake up. New Zealanders are burdened by economic anxiety, rising housing prices and hardship. Young ACT supports the ACT party’s plan to fix this.
Lower/less Taxes
Taxes distort prices and burden the economy and peoples wallets. People are less willing to engage in productive activities when taxes are high.
Scrap the RMA
The RMA has pushed land prices in New Zealand to the point house prices are un-bearable. We need to scrap it in favour of a more liberal system.
Free Trade
Free trade increases the purchasing power of consumers and the choice of goods and services.
Cut regulation/Red Tape
Over-regulation is killing business and choking competition out. We should make the barrier to starting one as low as possible.
Why I am a part of Young ACT
I’m in Young ACT because I believe in a free and open society, where everybody can achieve their goals and aspirations. Young ACT has been at the forefront of student politics for decades and is on the ground working to bring the message of freedom to the next generation. I’m proud to stand with them.
